Taipei Far Eastern Telecom Park
Award
2019 New Taipei Landscape Awards – Outstanding Award, Community Category
- A Sustainable Urban Park
Built upon an ecological framework of green corridors and water features, the park integrates stormwater management, water resource utilization, and smart environmental management to create a sustainable urban landscape.
- Stormwater Management and Water Resource Utilization
The park is designed to accommodate a 100-year storm event, with a total stormwater detention capacity of approximately 1,300 tons provided through retention ponds and underground water storage systems. Collected water is reused for irrigation and groundwater recharge, supporting a comprehensive strategy for water conservation and sustainable resource management.
- Water Purification and Retention
Water quality is naturally improved through filtration by vegetation, soil, and gravel media, while fountains help increase dissolved oxygen levels within the ponds. The stored water is also utilized for landscape irrigation.
- Sustainable Environmental Design
The park is primarily composed of vegetation, soil, and permeable aggregate materials. Hardscape areas employ permeable construction methods that enhance water infiltration and retention while helping to mitigate the urban heat island effect.
- Diverse Planting Design
A wide variety of flowering trees and shrubs has been selected to provide seasonal color and visual interest throughout the year. The changing landscape creates memorable experiences and a distinctive sense of place.
- Cultural and Historical Preservation
The site was formerly home to the Far Eastern Textile Factory, established in 1949 and closely associated with Taiwan’s textile industry and local economic development. To preserve this heritage, the project retains the historic chimney and portions of the original factory structures as cultural landmarks within the park.
- Smart Operations and Maintenance
The park incorporates an intelligent monitoring system, including surveillance cameras, a weather station, water quality sensors, air quality monitors, light sensors, and emergency call buttons. These facilities are connected to a centralized management system, ensuring a safe, secure, and smartly managed public environment.
