Award
2024 Taiwan Landscape Architecture Awards (11th Edition) – Excellence Award, Scenic Recreation Category

Project Background

The former Lintienshan Forestry Center was redeveloped in 2001 as the Lintienshan Forestry Culture Park. In 2006, it was officially registered as a Historic Settlement Building Complex under Taiwan’s Cultural Heritage Preservation Act. Among the thirteen designated settlement heritage sites in Taiwan, Lintienshan is the only forestry settlement, highlighting its unique significance in cultural preservation, spatial restoration, and sustainable heritage transmission.

In accordance with the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency’s Medium- and Long-Term Plan for the Preservation and Integrated Redevelopment of Forestry Cultural Resources (2021–2024), the Lintienshan Forestry Culture Park has established three primary development goals: experiencing life in a forestry settlement, recreating the operational character of a historic forestry center, and showcasing the diverse cultures of local communities. To achieve these objectives, a series of initiatives have been implemented, including landscape improvements, restoration of historic settlement buildings, and evaluation of railway restoration and adaptive reuse. This project serves as the cornerstone of the Agency’s broader forestry cultural resource preservation and redevelopment program.

Project Objectives

1. Landscape Enhancement and Improvement of Spatial Quality
The project integrates the park’s natural ecology, industrial heritage remains, and local historical development into a comprehensive planning framework. By coordinating with adjacent projects, future functional requirements, and long-term management strategies, the plan establishes a sustainable vision for both the landscape and spatial development of the park.

2. Cultural Preservation, Heritage Reconstruction, and Adaptive Reuse
Through the rehabilitation of historic remnants and the transformation of abandoned forestry machinery, combined with landscape enhancements and a connected visitor circulation network, the project revitalizes previously neglected and deteriorated areas of the park. These improvements enhance both the visitor experience and the overall environmental character, while incorporating forestry history into environmental education initiatives. The result is a mutually beneficial approach that promotes both cultural heritage preservation and sustainable site management.
